Title: A Few Aspects Regarding the Design and Modeling of the Squeeze Film Dampers
Author(s): LaurenÅ£iu Moraru

Abstract: Squeeze Film Dampers (SFDs) are journal bearings for which the spinning rotation of the journal (or of the bushing) is restricted. The hydrodynamic pressure is generated by the velocities induced by the precession and by the squeeze effect which appear when the two surfaces of the bearing move towards each other. Squeeze film dampers (sometimes called squeeze film bearings) are generally used as a means to add a desired amount of damping to a bearing. SFDs can be employed in conjunction with any type of bearing. However, they are mainly used for providing additional damping to the ball or roller bearings that support the shafts of the high-speed turbines. This paper contains a short review of the main research dedicated to modeling the squeeze film dampers.

Keywords: squeeze film bearings, dampers, rotordynamics.
