Title:  Research for Sustainable Development of Border Security Systems

Abstract: Integrated border security systems play an important role for each country’s safety. This paper presents the results of 6 Research Reports aiming to define a model for a sustainable development of such systems. Systemic approach concept is used to analyse the Integrated System for Border Security and also the reliability in EFFISEC FP7 project. Several optimisation problems have been identified and literature review for genetic algorithms usage has been performed. For a better decision-making process the research activities addressed the simulation using a tool developed in PPDR-TC FP7 project for development of a next generation broadband communication system. A definition for a sustainable development model was derived, highlighting the pillars (i.e. costs, end-users, interoperability). Further developments based on this model have been identified and future results will be included within the PhD thesis together with present results.
