Title: A Study on Beam Diversity Reception in GEO Satellite Communication System

Abstract: In this paper, the feasibility and performance of multi-beam diversity combining from the multi-beam antenna of geo-stationary earth orbit (GEO) satellite are investigated. We build up a generalized system base-band model for satellite beam diversity reception. Using this model, the beam diversity performance is analyzed with the consideration of terminal position, beam gain, fading level, correlation of beam branches. The results of simulation show that using beam diversity reception technique can effectively improve the uplink performance of GEO satellite communication.
